ENgaging LAtino Communities for Education

ENLACE is a statewide collaboration of “gente” who represent the voices of underrepresented children and families – people who have not traditionally had a say in policy initiatives that have had direct impact on their communities or their families. Programs centered on family and community engagement, student-to-student mentoring, establishment of sound policies, development of culturally relevant curricula, professional development for educators, encompass the essence of what ENLACE New Mexico fosters.

ENLACE Mission

The mission of Engaging LAtinos for Community Education (ENLACE) Eastern Region is to increase high school and college retention and graduation rates of Latino and other under served students in New Mexico, while smoothing the transition process from one level of the education pipeline to the next.   All Eastern Region ENLACE programs and projects are focused on raising literacy levels and increasing academic planning and achievement.

Higher Education Program

The Eastern Region Higher Education Program, which operates in Clovis, Portales, and Roswell, assists students and parents navigate the twists and turns of the higher education process. The program works to ensure that ALL underserved students are afforded the opportunity to benefit from a higher education by having the access guaranteed to them.

Family Leadership Programs

The Family Leadership Institute is a multi-faceted educational program focused on providing families with knowledge, tools and inspiration to help them and their children succeed in school and life.
Sessions are held in Clovis, Portales, and Roswell once each month.

Tutoring/Mentoring Program

Within Clovis Municipal Schools and the Portales and Roswell Independent School Districts, tutorial services are provided to students in the elementary, middle and high schools. During academic year 2012-2013, there were over 7,000 student contacts in all of the tutorial programs.

Statewide Collaborative

Engaging Latino Communities for Education (ENLACE) was created as a pilot project in 1999 by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to increase access and success in education. New Mexico was fortunate to be awarded funding to support three original sites based at New Mexico State University (NMSU), Santa Fe Community College, and the University of New Mexico (UNM).
