Breakfast in the Classroom

At Barry Elementary, we realize many students must get up earlier than they would prefer in order to ride a bus or to just get to school on time. Many of our children are not hungry this early in the morning and therefore do not eat a good breakfast simply because they are not yet hungry or awake. Once they have had time to wake up and they arrive at school, many are now very hungry.

Since we certainly understand this and we want to ensure that children are ready to learn, we provide all students breakfast in their classrooms each morning. There is no charge for this program; all students eat breakfast for free. We have seen an increase in student’s attention to lessons, ability to focus and complete work and a decrease in visits to the nurse.

If your child prefers to eat at home, that is fine. Eating breakfast at school is completely voluntary. We simply want to offer the best opportunity to learn as we can.
