Music is an important part of the curriculum at Barry Elementary School. Students attend music twice weekly. Activities in the music classes include singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Students also study music theory, music history, and musical styles.
Fourth through sixth graders learn to play the recorder and fourth graders have the opportunity to participate in the strings program. Sixth graders may participate in beginning band. Band students perform several times throughout the year, including the All Band Night "Pops Concert" in May.
Every student performs in a music program once each school year. The three performances include one in the fall semester, one at Christmas, and one in the spring. Fifth and sixth graders are eligible to audition for the All-City Honor Choir in the fall. Honor Choir performs in October at the city-wide concert. From this Choir, students are chosen to perform for the Ambassador Choir, which performs in November and February. |
