SuccessMaker Lab
The SuccessMaker Lab is an innovative, balanced educational program that incorporates curriculum, management, and assessment into a powerful results-based learning system. The software offers hours of interactive learning activities in reading, language arts and mathematics for students in grades 1st through 6th. Teachers are able to monitor and direct the progress of each student on an individual basis. There are two types of courses, Foundation courses and Explore Ware courses. Foundation courses offer instruction in fundamental skills and strategies where Explore Ware courses provide opportunities for exploration and open-ended instruction. Together they provide a balanced approach to learning. Students attend lab on a regular basis from 20 to 30 minutes either daily or twice weekly. The teacher and lab manager work together to monitor the individualized instruction.
After they obtain a level the program gradually moves them up as they learn new skills. This is a fabulous opportunity for students who are working below grade level or for the student who needs more of a challenge in their school work.

WELCOME TO THE BARRY LIBRARY!
Hello and welcome to the Barry Media Center web page! We would like to take this opportunity to let you know a little about what’s happening in our library.
There are two book fairs each school year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Notices and brochures are sent home with students prior to each event. All monies earned from our fairs are used to purchase new books. The Barry Library has a large selection of Accelerated Reading books and new books are being added to the collection on a regular basis.
As our library is a very busy place, parents wishing to volunteer to shelve, repair, or process new books are greatly appreciated!
Please stop by anytime to visit, we feel there is a lot going on in the Barry Media Center!

Music
Music is an important part of the curriculum at Barry Elementary School. Students attend music on a three day rotation alternating with P. E. and library. Activities in the daily music classes include singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Students also study music theory, music history, musical styles, and sign language.
Fourth and fifth graders learn to play the recorder and fifth graders are participating in the strings program. Sixth graders may also choose to learn a band instrument. Band students perform several times throughout the year, including the All Band Night "Pops Concert" in May.
Every student performs in a Music Program once each school year. One in the Fall semester, one at Christmas, and one in the spring. Fifth and sixth graders are eligible to audition for the All-City Honor Choir in the fall.
Physical Education
The Barry Elementary P. E. program strives to offer the students an opportunity to learn a wide variety of sports such as volleyball, softball, basketball, and running. Students are encouraged to display good sportsmanship and respect for everyone at all times. Students also learn about the bones of the body, and other sport and health related issues. All of the Character Counts Traits are emphasized in P. E. We participate in activities such as St. Judes Childrens Hospital Fund Raiser and the Presidential Physical Fitness Testing.
We encourage our students to be active and healthy by
motivating them to join the Mileage Club.
What is Mileage Club?
Mile Club is
an activity that the students choose either to walk or run laps that are
equivalent to a mile. For their effort and hard work in finishing their
miles, they are rewarded with tokens, bracelets, or backpacks.
GREAT JOB & KEEP UP THE HARD WORK!
School Nurse
During this cold and flu season, it is important for you to encourage your children to wash their hands frequently at home. Be sure there is warm water and soap available to them in the area where they wash up. We don't think about how important handwashing is in the prevention of disease. Handwashing is still our first and best line of defense against illness.
Please don't send your children to school when they are sick! They will not be able to learn if they are feeling miserable and we do not want everyone to share their germs! If they have a temperature, are vomiting or have diarrhea, please keep them home. It may be enough for them to stay home a day or two and recover. The result of pushing the child to go to school may be more serious illness for a longer period of time. Extra rest is important for a child who is ill and may be enough to allow the body to heal.
Please be sure there is an emergency form on file for each of your children with current phone numbers to contact you or someone who can be responsible for your child. If the information changes, it is your responsibility to notify the school. This is very important because it is the only way we can contact you if your child is ill or injured.
6th Grade Parents-Just a reminder that we will be providing Hepatitis B immunizations to children who have not had the series, .beginning the end of the month. I have sent notification to all parents whose children need the series. Please return the permission slip as soon as possible so your child does not miss this opportunity. The completed series is required for entry into 7th grade. If you have questions, please let me know.
Stay healthy!
