Barry Elementary School maintains a sincere and dedicated commitment to the safety of its students, staff, and property. In order to provide a school environment that is healthy, safe and conductive to learning, Barry has worked with parents and community agencies to develop a School-Level Safety Plan.  This plan, which is reviewed annually, provides direction for school staff in the prevention and deterrent of potentially harmful situations.

The School-Level Safety Plan is divided into four main sections:

• Prevention- Provides direction to the Barry staff for preventing potential harmful situations. This includes:
• internet safety
• suicide prevention
• grief
• pandemic flu
• traffic safety
• bicycle safety
• playground safety
• health education
• counseling
• sign-in procedures

• Policies and Procedures- Provides direction for Barry staff for intervening in potential harmful situations.  These situations include:
• bus disruptions
• substance use
• gang activity
• weapons
• drug and alcohol use
• dress code
• attendance
• bullying

• Response- Assists Barry in preparing for potential emergency situations. Situations that staff receive training on and that are practiced include:
• Lockdown procedures
• Bomb Threat
• Bus Mishaps
• Emergency Fire Procedures
• Emergency Evacuations
• Tornado Procedures

• Recovery- Assists schools in coping with the aftermath of a traumatic incident.  This includes staff and student notification.

As parents you are always welcome at Barry Elementary. It is critical that you always report to the office first in order to receive a visitor’s badge.  We try to limit random classroom visitation due to the interruption of instructional time.
