Technology

At Barry Elementary, our students have many opportunities to utilize technology.  We see technology as a way to enhance instruction, not as a way to replace the valuable instruction that our teachers provide.  We use many technological resources to enhance our curriculum, assess our students, provide individualized instruction, and to communicate with parents.  Technology will always be a focus at Barry Elementary, where we will continue to work diligently to ensure our students have access to technology that is current.

Computer Lab

Our computer lab is equipped with 31 Dell computers, which are used to run the SuccessMaker software program for reading and math. We have used this program since the 98-99 school year. The lab is also equipped with a laser color printer and scanner.

Classrooms

Each classroom is equipped with the following:

  • One Dell computer to allow students the opportunity to have additional access to the SuccessMaker software.
  • Two iMac computers to use for programs that enhance our curriculum, assessments, and research. These include STAR Reading, STAR Math, Accelerated Reader, Knowledge Box, SME, and the Internet.
  •  Each classroom works on a wireless network that allows us to add computers as the need arises.
  • Laser printers are available in each classroom.
  • Each classroom is also equipped with an Infocus projector mounted in the ceiling.  This allows us to provider the entire class lessons from a computer in the room.

  • The classrooms at Barry Elementary are wired to receive email and Internet. We utilize this to enhance the instruction and to communicate with different people in the district and parents.

Library

The library at Barry Elementary is automated with the Alexandria system.  This system allows us to keep accurate records on the checking in and out of books.  We are able to check students in and out more quickly and it assists the librarian in making purchasing decisions based on student usage of various titles, collections, or genres. Students can also access the system in the classrooms to determine if a book is available.  The library has two individual student computer workstations where they are able too access the Alexandria system to assist them in searching for a library book.
