Hello,
My name is Donna Stewart, and I am so excited about this year at Cameo Elementary. I will be teaching second grade. My two major areas of focus will be reading and math, with cross-curricular activities for science and social studies. I always do my best partnering with students and parents to make sure children leave my classroom with the academic and social skills they need to continue to the next grade level with success. I am from a small town in northeastern New Mexico, Springer. I graduated from High School in Springer. I attended college at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education K-8 in 1976. Upon graduation I accepted my first teaching position at Highland Elementary in Plainview the following fall. I taught first grade there for three years before I met and married my husband of 30 years, Bobby Jack Stewart. I received my Med from Eastern New Mexico University in 1983. I began teaching at Cameo in 1997. I have a total of 16 years of teaching experience. I taught 1st grade for three years, special education EA for on year, GT for one year, third grade for nine years, and second grade two years. Every year is a new beginning for me as well as for each and every child.

Philosophy of Education
I believe that you can give a child a fish, and he/she can eat a meal; but if you teach them to fish, they can feed themselves for life. All students are capable of learning. Reading is the foundation to all other learning. If a child can read they will be more successful in all other areas of life. The student must take responsibility for their education and be willing to listen, participate in activities, turn their work in finished and on time, and behave appropriately at all times. I utilize every opportunity to teach children about the six pillars of character: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, and citizenship. I think the understanding and practice of these basic character traits improve the educational process of all students in the classroom and diminish distractions that interrupt that process. Communication between teacher and parent is essential to a successful year. If the student knows from the beginning that parents and teacher are working together and supporting each other, the student will be more responsible with their everyday tasks, procedures, and behaviors. |
