CHS Graduation Requirements

TWENTY-FOUR units of credit are required to successfully complete high school and earn a Clovis High School diploma. Credit is awarded on the basis of ONE CREDIT PER CLASS PERIOD FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR. For  a one semester course, .5 credit will be issued. A student must have earned at least 15 credits and have successfully completed two years of English to be classified as a senior.  Only students fulfilling ALL requirements have the option to march in the commencement ceremony.

All students are required to have 24 credits from the following:

Class of 2011&2012
English – 4 credits
Math – 3 credits
Science – 3 credits (two of which shall have a laboratory component)
Social Science – 3.5 credits

  • U.S. History (1.0 credit)
  • World History (1.0 credit)
  • Government (.5 credit)
  • Economics (.5 credit)
  • NM History (.5 credit)

Communication Skills – 1 credit
Physical Education – 1 credit
Electives – 8.5 credits

  • Class of 2011 must pass all 6 portions of the NMHSCE.
  • Class of 2012 must pass the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment to graduate from Clovis High School.  A student has three chances to pass this test:  spring of 11th grade, fall of 12th grade, and winter of 12th grade.

 

Class of 2013&2014:
English – 4 credits
Math – 4 credits (One shall be equivalent to or higher than Algebra II)
Science – 3 credits (two of which shall have a laboratory component)
Social Science – 3.5 credits

  • U.S. History (1.0 credit)
  • World History (1.0 credit)
  • Government (.5 credit)
  • Economics (.5 credit)
  • NM History (.5 credit)

Physical Education – 1 credit
Elective Credit – 8.5

  • One credit must come from an AP class, dual credit class, or online class.

All students must pass the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment to graduate from Clovis High School.  A student has three chances to pass this test:  spring of 11th grade, fall of 12th grade, and winter of 12th grade.


Early Graduation Requirements

Students planning early graduation MUST CONTACT THEIR COUNSELOR FOR APPROVAL of their plan and make necessary arrangements prior to the first day of school of the academic year of graduation. A committee will review the application and determine the outcome.
