There are two college entrance assessments: the American College Test (ACT) and the College Entrance Examination Board (SAT). To gain admission to a vast majority of colleges, a student should take one of these test at least once during their senior year.
NOTE: The CHS Guidance staff recommends that students take one of these exams during the second term of the junior year and use the senior year to improve their score.
ACT and SAT packets are available in the guidance office.
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/national merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) measures certain verbal and mathematical abilities that have been shown to be related to success in college studies. This test can help a student assess his/her ability to do college work, form plans for college, and choose high school courses for their senior year.
the PSAT/NMSQT is also the first step in entering the scholarship competitions promoted by the National Scholarship Corporation. The test is available to any junior and English II -Honors sophomores. Students qualify as a National Merit Scholar ONLY when the test is taken as a junior.
- The PSAT/NMSQT assessment will be administered to all interested sophomores and juniors by the guidance department staff on Wednesday
October 15th, 2008 at 8:30 AM in the CHS lecture hall. The cost is $16.00
- The PSAT/NMSQT can be beneficial to all students. This test provides practice for SAT exams. The exam measures the reading, math and writing
skills needed for college and/or success in most jobs and careers of today.
- The PSAT/NMSQT is also the first step in entering the National Merit Scholarship Corporation competitions for scholarships and recognition.
- SOPHMORES may register to take the PSAT/NMSQT however, qualifying for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation competitions is
NOT offered to sophomores. The student must plan to take the assessment
again at the junior level.
- Registration deadline for the PSAT/NMSQT is Tuesday, October 8th, 2008. Please come to the Guidance Office to register.
