Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student and is more than just academic recognition. The NHS chapter establishes guidelines for selection that are based upon a candidate’s outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection are:

1. 3.7 Cumulative GPA to apply.
   
   
2. At least 75% positive feedback from teacher recommendations.
   
   
3. GPA is checked after each nine weeks (or at the beginning of the fall semester for the previous year’s 4th weeks grade). If the GPA has dropped the student has one nine weeks to bring their GPA back up to proper standing before a dismissal hearing is set.

1. Dues.  Members will pay an annual due of $10.00.
   
   
2. Maintaining standards.  Once selected, all members are expected to maintain the standards by which they were selected.  Members must maintain a cumulative 3.5 G.P.A. once inducted, display good character at all times and remain in good standing with the faculty and administration.
   
   
3. Meetings.  Students must attend monthly meetings.  After two unexcused meetings students will receive a letter notifying them of their status.  After the third unexcused missed meeting the advisors will hold a meeting to dismiss the student from honor society.
   
   
4. Chapter service projects.  All chapters are required to sponsor a chapter service project and all members are required to participate.
   
   
5. Individual service projects.  In addition to the chapter service project, members are to engage in additional service according to their own talents and interests.  Each member is required to perform five (5) hours of individual service hours by the March meeting.
