Programs & Misc.
One major contributor to our success is the fact that our teachers employ a number of instructional strategies in their day to day instruction supported by a variety of programs. Our programs are developed based on the individual needs of our students. From the use of traditional methods such as phonics instruction to cooperative learning and hands on instruction, our students receive the best that our profession has to offer.

ACCELERATED READING (AR)
Reading research has proven that reading practice is what makes a
difference between struggling and proficient readers. AR motivates
students to read at their own level while challenging them to tackle
material at the next level.
CHARACTER COUNTS!
Effective character education,
of course, goes beyond the memorization of words. It involves the
inculcation of habits that form internal mechanisms of control and
moral courage. Character education is necessary to help students develop
the tools and strategies to make moral choices they can be proud of.
A teacher can provide no greater gift.
COUNSELING
School counselors provide one-on-one personal counseling, classroom
presentations, career exploration activities, and program assessment.
MUSIC PROGRAMS
Our music programs ensure that every child in our school has a an
active part in our programs. This year we will be celebrating the
59th Annual Mayday Program, a tradition that is certainly a proud
memory for many of our alumni.
READING BUDDIES
This is a school wide program where students in the primary grades
are paired with students in the intermediate grades. These students share literature and participate
in activities designed by the teacher. As designed, this program also
provides teachers an opportunity to meet with their grade level colleagues
to collaboratively plan activities for their classrooms.
SuccessMaker Enterprise - SME Lab
The SuccessMaker Enterprise Lab is an innovative, balanced educational program that incorporates curriculum, management, and assessment into a powerful results-based learning system. The software offers hours of interactive learning activities in reading, language arts and mathematics for students in grades 1st through 6th. Teachers are able to monitor and direct the progress of each student on an individual basis. There are two types of courses, Foundation courses and Explore Ware courses. Foundation courses offer instruction in fundamental skills and strategies where ExploreWare courses provide opportunities for exploration and open-ended instruction. Together they provide a balanced approach to learning. Students attend lab on a regular basis. The teacher monitors the individualized computer instruction.
After children obtain performance levels, the program gradually moves them up as they learn new skills. This is a fabulous opportunity for students who are working below grade level or for the student who needs more of a challenge in math or reading. |
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Our after school help program with assistance from the Talent
Search Program and Eastern New Mexico University will continue to
tutor our sixth grade students. The focus of this program is to help
students with their homework and to help them develop study and organizational
skills. We will be expanding our After School Program (ASP) to provide
after school care for our students in Pre-K through sixth grade. We
hope to provide a fun, safe educational environment for our kids from
3:00 to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The curriculum being utilized
this year will be Voyager: Time Wrap. The Voyage programs provide
an interactive approach to learning across the curriculum. |
H.O.S.T.S.
Help One Student To Succeed (HOSTS) is a research-based structured
mentoring strategy that combines developmentally appropriate assessments,
learning strategies, and instructional activities to extend and enrich
the students’ learning. The program pairs a student who needs help
learning to read with a community volunteer as a mentor. A mentor
works with a student on materials and activities prescribed by the
HOSTS instructor. Our HOSTS program focuses on children at risk in
grades 1st-3rd grade. |
HUNDRED DAY CELEBRATION
Our primary grade students participate in an annual Hundred Day celebration.
Our teachers prepare a number of activities in which the students actively participate
in math activities on the one hundredth day of school.
SCIENCE FAIR
This activity is open to all Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade
students at Bickley. Students in our Kindergarten, First and Second
Grade classrooms participate in class projects which are then displayed
during the Science Fair. Our goal is to expose all of our students
to the scientific process while preparing a number of our sixth graders
for district and hopefully regional and state competition. |
