Accidents/Illness – Parents will be notified if a child is injured or becomes sick at school.  If the parent cannot be reached, the school will call the emergency number(s). It is extremely important for parents to keep this information current.

Adult visitors – All adult visitors must enter the front door of the school, sign in at the office and wear a “visitor badge.”  This procedure is for the safety of our students and your patience is appreciated.

Arrival and Dismissal

Please remember to make arrangements for after school transportation BEFORE the school day begins.  Students will be sent home by the same means of transportation they came to school unless the teacher receives a note from the parent or guardian.  Students will not be allowed to use the telephone to see if they may go home with a friend.  Also, please note that students wishing to temporarily ride a bus must bring a note from a parent to the office and get a bus pass.  The student must give the bus pass to the bus driver when getting on the bus. 

Early Dismissal – If you need to pick up your child during school hours, please come to the office and a staff member will call your child to the office while you sign him/her out.  For your child’s protection, identification is required AND prior notification by the parent if AN AUTHORIZED PERSON other than a parent or guardian is picking up a child.

Attendance – Regular school attendance is important to a student’s success. It is also the law, and the responsibility of the parent/guardian.  An absence is excused only if there is a death in the family or with a signed doctor’s note.  All other absences will be considered unexcused.  If a student has 10 or more unexcused absences during THE YEAR, the Child Protective Services Intake Unit will be notified.  For your child’s safety, if your child is going to be absent, please notify the school by calling the office (769-4465), sending a note with another student, or coming by the office. 

Tardies - Please help your child be at school by 8:00 a.m. each day. BEING ON TIME HELPS THE CHILD PREPARE FOR THE DAY.

Breakfast and Lunch – Parents are always welcome to eat with their children. If you plan to eat with your child, please send a note so you will be included in the lunch count. All children will eat for free at Lockwood Elementary for the 2007-2008 school year.  In order to provide this service, we are encouraging all children at Lockwood to eat breakfast.

Bus Behavior – Riding a bus is a privilege, which may be revoked at any time due to poor behavior.  Please remind your child that safety is everyone’s responsibility and that he/she must obey the driver.

Care of Books – Students are responsible for the condition of all books as required by NM law.  All books must be returned or paid for at the end of the year or upon withdrawal.

Fire and Tornado Drills – These drills are necessary and are conducted on a regular basis in accordance with NM law.

Internet Usage – Students are allowed to use the Internet only under direct supervision and in compliance with district policy.  ALL STUDENTS USING THE INTERNET WILL REQUIRE A PARENT SIGNATURE.

No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 – As a parent of a child attending a Title 1 school, it is your right to know about the qualifications of your child’s teacher including licensure, college major, etc.  If you would like this information, please contact the principal.

Notification of Rights under FERPA - The District classifies the following as Directory Information: student’s name, parent’s name, address, telephone listing, electronic mail address, date and place of birth, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, diplomas and awards received, student’s photograph, and the most recent previous school attended by the student.  School officials may release this information to any person without the consent of the parents or the student.  Any parent or eligible student who objects to the release of this information without his consent must complete and submit a Request Not to Release Student Information form to the principal of the school where the records are kept within two weeks of registration. If no objection is received within two weeks, information designated above will be classified as Directory Information until the beginning of the next school year.  Copies of the complete FERPA Policy adopted by the District may be obtained from the Superintendent’s Office or from the Principal’s Office of each school within the District.

Medications – No medications can be administered by school personnel without a completed medication form, which may be picked up in the office.

Parent Involvement – Parents are always welcome at LOCKWOOD.  Please watch for information in our monthly newsletter regarding family nights, programs, PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC) meetings and other ways to get involved at LOCKWOOD.  If you would like to volunteer, please call the office at 769-4465.

School Improvement – The staff at Lockwood is continually searching for ways to improve teaching of students and communication with families. A school survey will be sent to families.  The results will be used in decision making.

Student Insurance – School insurance is available to all students.  A packet will be sent home the first week of school or upon enrollment.  Purchase is optional.

Student withdrawal – A 24 hour prior notice is required for all withdrawals, and all accounts must be cleared.

Student Conduct – It is impossible to list every rule to cover every detail that may arise.  Thus to create a safe learning environment everyone must show good character by being Trustworthy, Respectful, Responsible, fair, caring and being a good citizen.  If we do this we will have a safe school that will be a great day for learning every day!

Appearance – All students will follow the Clovis Municipal Schools Dress Code.
All pants must fit at the waist and crotch.
Shirts must be buttoned and long shirttails tucked in.
Dresses, skirts, or shorts will be no shorter than midthigh.
No midriffs or tanktops are allowed.
No caps or hood will be worn in the building.
Any article of clothing, item, writing, or act, which may be gang related or inappropriate for young children, is prohibited.

• Fighting of any kind, including “play fighting” is prohibited and will result in severe consequences including suspension or corporal punishment!
  
• Weapons of any kind, including toy weapons are prohibited and will result in immediate and possibly permanent removal from all Clovis Schools.
  
• Sexual harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.  Reported incidents will be handled in a developmentally appropriate manner.

AS A PARENT OF A STUDENT AT LOCKWOOD ELEMENTARY, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW THE PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS OF THE CLASSROOM TEACHERS WHO INSTRUCT YOUR CHILD.  FEDERAL LAW ALLOWS YOU TO ASK FOR CERTAIN INFORMAITON ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM TEACHERS, AND REQUIRES US TO GIVE YOU THIS INFORMATION IN A TIMELY MANNER IF YOU ASK FOR IT.  SPECIFICALLY, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASK FOR THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ABOUT EACH OF YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM TEACHERS;

WHETHER THE NEW MEXICO STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HAS LICENSED OR QUALIFIED THE TEACHER FOR THE GRADES AND SUBJECTS HE OR SHE TEACHES.
WHETHER THE NEW MEXICO STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HAS DECIDED THAT THE TEACHER CAN TEACH IN A CLASSROOM WITHOUT BEING LICESNSED OR QUALIFIED UNDER STATE REGULATIONS BECAUSE OF SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

Accidentes / enfermedades- Si SU niño se lastima o SE enfermA en la escuela. Los padres serán notificados.  Si NO PODEMOS COMUNICARNOS CON LOS PADRES, la escuela llamará Al número de emergencia.  Es demasiado importante que los padres mantengan esta información corriente.

Los Visitantes Adultos - Todos los visitantes adultos deben entrar POR la puerta PRINCIPAL de la escuela, DEBEN DE FIRMAR EN EL REGISTRO en la oficina y usar una “Credencial de visitante”.  Este procedimiento se usa para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y se aprecia su paciencia.

Llegada y despedida
7:40-8:05 - desayuno en la clase
8:05 - la escuela comienza – ¡sean puntuales!
3:00 – despedida/12:30 p.m. los miÈrcoles

Recuerda por favor de tomar estas medidas para el transporte después de la escuela y antes que  comienze la escuela.  Los mismos medios del transporte que usaron sus estudiantes para llegar al escuela, son los mismos que usarÁn para regresar a casa, a menos que el maestro/a reciba una nota del padre o del guarda.  No se permitirÁ a los estudiantes utilizar el teléfono para preguntar si pueden ir a casa con un amigo.  También, favor de cuidar que los estudiantes que desean subir temporalmente un autobús, deben entregar una nota de un padre a la oficina y conseguir un pase DE autobús y entregárselo al manejador en cuanto sube el autobús.

Despedida Temprano – SI Usted TIENE QUE RECOGER A SU niño durante las horas escolares, favor de llegar a la oficina y un empleado de la escuela llamará a su niño a la oficina mientras que usted firma para la despedida. Para la protección de su niño/a, Se requiere identificación o notificación anteriormente por el padre, si alguien mas que el padre o guarda va a recoger al
 niño/a.

Asistencia – Asistir a la escuela regularmente es importante para el éxito de su estudiante. Es también la ley y la responsabilidad del guarda  y del padre. Se perdona una ausencia solamente si hay una muerte en la familia o con UNA nota FIRMADA POR EL doctor. El resto de las ausencias serán consideradas ausente sin permiso.  Si su estudiante tiene 10 o más ausencias sin permiso durante el aÑo escolar, El director de servicios de Protectivo del niño “Child Protective Service” será notificada. Para la seguridad de su niño, si su niño va a SER ausente, por favor de notificar a la escuela llamando A la oficina (769-4465),  tambiÈn puede enviar una nota con otro estudiante, o avisa  la oficina personalmente.

llegar tarde “Tardies” - por favor de ayudar a su niño llegar a la escuela antes de las 8:00 de la mañana DIARIAMENTE.  LOS ESTUDIANTES QUE LLEGAN A TIEMPO COMIENZAN SU DíA LISTO.

Desayuno y almuerzo - los padres siempre son bienvenidos A comer con sus niños. LES PEDIMOS QUE envíe por favor una nota a la maestra para que les incluyen en la cuenta del almuerzo. Todos los niños comerán gratis en Lockwood por el año escolar 2007-2008. Para proporcionar este servicio, INVITAMOS a todos los niños en Lockwood que desayunen
DIARIAMENTE.

Comportamiento en el autobús - subir un autobús es un privilegio que puede ser revocado en cualquier momento por el comportamiento inaceptable. Recuerde por favor a su niño, que la seguridad es la responsabilidad de cada uno y que él/ella siempre debe obedecer el manejador.

Cuidando los libros - los estudiantes son responsables por los libros según los requisitos de la ley de Nuevo MÈxico. Todos los libros se deben volver o pagar al fin del aÑo o cuando se retiran del escuela.

El ejercicio del incendio y el tornado -Estos ejercicios son necesarios y se conducen regularmente de acuerdo con la ley del Nuevo MÈxico.

Uso del Internet - se permite a los estudiantes utilizar el Internet solamente bajo supervisión directa y en complacencia con la política del distrito. TODOS LOS ESTUDIANTES QUE USAN EL INTERNET REQUERIRÁN UNA FIRMA PATERNAL.

La Ley QUE NINGúN niño SE QUEDE ATRÁS del acto de 2001- como padre de niño que asiste una escuela del título 1, tiene el derecho saber sobre calificaciones del profesor de sus hijos INCLUIDO licencia del comandante de la universidad etc. Si usted quiere esta información, pongase en contacto con el DIRECTOR.

 NOTIFICACIÓN DE LOS DERECHOS DE FERPA - EL DISTRITO ESCOLAR CLASIFICA LA SIGUIENTE INFORMACIÓN: NOMBRE DE ESTUDIANTE, NOMBRE DE LOS PADRES, DOMICILIO, TELÉFONO, DIRECCIÓN DEL CORREO ELECTRÓNICO, FECHA Y LUGAR DE NACIMIENTO, PARTICIPACIÓN EN ACTIVIDADES Y DEPORTES ESCOLARES OFICIALMENTE RECONOCIDOS, PESO Y ALTURA DE LOS MIEMBROS DE EQUIPOS ATLÉTICOS, FECHAS DE LA ASISTENCIA, DIPLOMAS Y RECONOCIMIENTOS RECIBIDOS, FOTOGRAFÍA DEL ESTUDIANTE, Y LAS ESCUELAS ANTERIORES Y MÁS RECIETES QUE FUERON ASISTIDOS POR EL ESTUDIANTE.   LOS FUNCIONARIOS DE LA ESCUELA PUEDEN REVELAR ESTA INFORMACIÓN A CUALQUIER PERSONA SIN EL CONSENTIMIENTO DE LOS PADRES O DEL ESTUDIANTE.  CUALQUIER PADRE O ESTUDIANTE QUE SE OPONE A LA REVELACIÓN DE ESTA INFORMACIÓN DEBE COMPLETAR Y PRESENTAR UNA PETICÍON, INFORMACÍON DE ESTUDIANTE PARA NO REVELAR, AL DIRECTOR DE LA ESCUELA DONDE LOS ARCHIVOS SON GUARDADOS.  ESTE DEBE SER HECHO DOS SEMANAS DESPUÉS DEL REGISTRO. RETIRO DEL ESTUDIANTE – SE REQUIERE 24 HORAS, AL MINIMA, PARA INFORMAR A LA OFICINA SI EL ESTUDIANTE VA RETIRARSE DE LA ESCUELA. TODAS LAS CUENTAS DEBEN SER PAGADAS EN SU TOTALIDAD.

CONDUCTA DEL ESTUDIANTE - ES IMPOSIBLE REVISAR CADA REGLA PARA CUBRIR CADA DETALLE QUE SE PRESENTA. ASÍ PARA CREAR UN AMBIENTE PARA APRENDER, CADA ESTUDIANTE DEBE SER UNA PERSONA CON BUEN CARÁCTER: CONFIABLE, RESPETUOSO, RESPONSABLE, JUSTO, HUMANO Y BUEN CIUDADANO. ¡Si HACEMOS ESTO, TENDREMOS UNA ESCUELA SEGURA Y QUE SIEMPRE SEA UN GRAN DÍA PARA APRENDER.

 LAS CAMISAS DEBEN SER ABOTONADAS Y BIEN FAJADAS.
LAS FALDAS, VESTIDOS Y “SHORTS” DEBEN LLEGAR POR LO MENOS A MEDIA PIERNA.
NO SE PERMITE USAR NINGUNAS CAMISAS QUE ENSEÑAN EL ESTÓMAGO.
NO SE USARÁ NINGUNAS CLASES DE CACHUCHAS O GORRAS ADENTRO DE LA ESCUELA.
CUALQUIERA FORMA DE VESTUARIO QUE TENGA MENSAJE O SÍMBOLO RELACIONADO CON PANDILLAS ES PROHIBIDO EN ESTA ESCUELA.

• PELEAS EN LA ESCUELA, INCLUIDO, SI ESTAS JUGANDO. DARÁ LUGAR A CONSECUENCIAS SEVERAS, INCLUIDO LA SUSPENSIÓN O EL CASTIGO CORPORAL! 
  
• SE PROHIBE ARMAS EN LA ESCUELA, INCLUIDO LAS ARMAS DE JUGUETE Y DARÁN  LUGAR A RETIRO INMEDIATO Y POSIBLEMENTE PERMANENTE DE TODAS LAS ESCUELAS DE CLOVIS. 
• EL ACOSO SEXUAL EN LA ESCUELA NO SERÁ TOLERADO. LOS INCIDENTES RELATADOS SERÁN MANEJADOS EN UNA MANERA APROPIADA.

La ley federal, les permite que piden cierta información de los maestros de sus hijos, y requiere que nosotros le engregemos la información con tiempo, si usted lo pide. Especificamente, tiene el derecho de preGuntar por información de cada maestro de sus hijos:

Si el departamento de educación del estado de Nuevo México ha dado licencia o ha calificado el maestro Por los grados o sujetos EL o ella enseña.
Si el departamento de educación del estado de Nuevo México han decidido que el maestro puede enseñar en unA clase sin tener licencia o calificaciónes bAjo las reglas del estado causA de circunstancias especiales.
Los estudios especiales universitarios, si el maestro tiene estudios avanzados, y si así es, el sujeto de los estudios.
Si cualquier ayudante del maestro o paraprofesional proveÉ servicios a su hijo/a, y si, sus calificaciónes.
