"New Mexico state law requires that ALL students be immunized against certain diseases." "It is unlawful for any student to enroll in school unless he has been immunized, and can provide satisfactory evidence of such immunization."
The importance of maintaining high immunization levels in school children cannot be overemphasized. New Mexico has one of the best school immunization rates in the country.
In the school setting, the school nurse is the person best qualified to determine which children require an immunization and notify parents and/or guardians.
Students in Early Childhood Programs:
Students less than five years of age who attend Early Childhood Programs on school grounds must have their immunization status verified. Students should be up to date with the recommended immunization schedule.
Please see the attached Immunization Schedule so that you will know which immunizations are required for your child. The school nurse will notify you if your child's immunizations are not up to date.
As of September 1, 2000 all children entering pre-school are required to have completed the three-dose Hepatitis B vaccine series and to have received the Chicken Pox vaccine - or had the disease - in order to begin the school year.
Immunization Availability:
Immunizations are available from any of the following providers:
- your family physician or pediatrician,
- the Public Health Office located at 1216 Cameo, or
- the nurse at your child's school
Clovis Municipal Schools participate in the "Vaccines for Children" program and make immunizations available to any student free of charge. Please check with our office staff if we can assist you in this process.
