NUMERACY GOAL

School Goal:  The percentage of students showing proficiency in mathematics will increase 7%, from 38% to 45%, by March 2008, as measured by the NMSBA.

Team Goal:  By May 2008, 80% of Parkview students will communicate mathematics in the form of words, pictures, or numbers as measured by the score of 2 on the teacher created rubric based on Number Literacy.

Numeracy Activity
of the Month
Strategies for all Grade Levels:

  1. Administer and score word problems 3 times a year (Beginning, Middle, End) using the Number Literacy rubric to inform instruction.
  2. Utilize color coded vocabulary word wall to ensure consistent reading, writing, and speaking of math vocabulary across grade levels throughout the year.
  3. Analyze SME data and provide interventions at least 2 times a week.
  4. Utilize Number Literacy tools (ie; What's My Place/What's My Value, DOTS, monthly baits, number patterns, Opening Eyes To Mathematic in grades 3-4, and Visual Mathematics ingrades 5-6) and Math Expressions daily to develop mathematical concepts.
  5. Utilize words, pictures, numbers, signs, symbols, or explanations daily to develop mathematical concepts.
  6. Implement a Family Math Night in the fall to inform parents/guardians of key components of number literacy.
  7. Develop and utilize a team of on-site math resource personnel to  meet with grade level teachers and across grade levels a minimum of once a month.
