SCHOOL NURSES
Please contact the school nurse for your child’s school if you have questions, health or safety concerns, need assistance, or to make arrangements for special health needs. In order to keep students healthy and safe at school, nurses must know of any potentially serious problems such as diabetes, asthma, seizures, or life-threatening allergies. Nurses should also be notified of health problems that impact learning or require modifications of regular school activities. Learn more about your school nurses below:

Rhonda Sparks, RN, BSN,
Director of Health Services


Rhonda Sparks graduated from New Mexico State University/Las Cruces in 1983. Her early practice took place in Las Cruces at Memorial Medical Center where she was the second shift Pediatric Charge Nurse for 10 years. The last 13 years of her career have been spent in school health. She is the Secretary of the New Mexico School Nurse Association. Rhonda is currently in her 6th year as Director and state’s, ”I have the best team in the district. They are a group of well-educated professionals that are kind and caring. We are blessed to care for Clovis’s greatest gift – it’s children!” If you have questions or concerns about school health or the nurse at your child’s school, please contact Mrs. Sparks at 935-0011.

Rhonda Sparks


Chris Garcia, RN, BSN
divides her time between La Casita and Lockwood elementary schools. She received her nursing education at Clovis Community College and Eastern New Mexico University. Chris began her career 18 years ago in Obstetrics and then moved on to Home Health and Hospice care where she specialized in Pediatric health. Chris’s dual language skills are an added benefit to the sites she serves. Chris is especially interested in Emergency and Crisis Response planning and is a certified CPR instructor.

Sheryl Hieronymus, RN
graduated from North Texas School of Nursing in 1975. Her 30 years of nursing experience are invaluable to the students and staff at Bella Vista and Zia Elementary schools. Sheryl worked first as a Public Health nurse and it was that role that led her to school nursing since the Public Health staff traveled to rural school sites to provide health care. She is a tireless advocate for children with special needs. Sheryl is currently working with other school nurses to revamp several of our classroom health education modules.

Joni Horne, RN
is a native New Yorker that has been serving the children of the Clovis Municipal Schools for 14 years. Prior to becoming a school nurse, she worked in the Cannon Family Practice Clinic, as a Public Health nurse, and in the long-term care setting. Joni is the school nurse for Cameo Elementary and Gattis Junior High. She is presently working towards the completion of her Master’s degree in nursing and credits her Director with being the inspiration for this challenge. Joni, or “Nursie”, as her students past and present lovingly call her, is especially interested in helping adolescents make wise health choices. Joni is also a certified CPR instructor.

Linda Jacquez, RN
serves Clovis High School and the largest concentration of students in the district. She has been with the Clovis Municipal Schools since 1976 where she taught the Vocational Health class at Clovis High School. Linda has worked at several of the elementary schools during her career, but is dedicated to her kids at CHS stating, “I love my job and the kids I work with!” Her nurturing spirit lets the teens she cares for know that their health needs are important to her, and that she wants them to make wise decisions as they transition to adulthood.
Kristen Jeffcoat, RN, BS
is the school nurse at Highland Elementary and Marshall Junior High. Before coming to the Clovis Municipal Schools 5 years ago, Kristen worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse. She considers herself a life-long learner and is always eager to expand her knowledge base. One of the things Kristen enjoys most about school nursing is the opportunity it gives her to assist families and ensure that their children receive the best healthcare possible. She has been instrumental in changing nutrition and activity standards at her schools and enjoys sharing health messages in classrooms. Kristen is also a certified CPR instructor.

Natasha Flowers, RN
joined our team in December 2005 and divides her time between James Bickley and Parkview Elementary Schools.  She received her Nursing Degree from Clovis Community College in 1999 and began her career on the Women©ˆs Unit at Plains Regional Medical Center where she worked in Labor and Delivery for 6 1/2 years.  Natasha is a certified Labor & Delivery Nurse and Childbirth Educator. She has also been ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certified and a CPR instructor.  Natasha has found her school nurse experience to be quite educational, stating "I really enjoy the children, they all have such unique personalities.  It keeps work fun!"

Laney Pierce, RN
is the newest member of our team. She joined us in October 2005 and spends her time caring for the students at Ranchvale and Sandia Elementary schools, as well as those at Choices Alternative School. Laney has 11 years of nursing experience in Labor and Delivery. Laney is very excited about her move to school nursing and states, “I feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful team!”

Cyndi Roanhaus, RN, BSN
graduated from Clovis High School before pursuing a degree in nursing at Eastern New Mexico University and then West Texas A & M. She has been a nurse for 26 years and has been serving the children of the Clovis Municipal Schools for the last 13. Her previous experience includes the Surgical Unit, Operating Room, and office nursing. Cyndi is currently the school nurse at Lincoln-Jackson Arts Academy and Yucca Junior High. She has been instrumental in developing grade appropriate curriculum units for Hand Washing and Personal Hygiene. Cyndi holds the distinction of being a member of the National Nursing Honor Society.

David Sanchez, RN, BSN
is also a CHS graduate. He received his nursing education at Clovis Community College and Eastern New Mexico University. David has been a Registered Nurse for 11 years with experience in the Operating Room, Geriatrics, and Renal Dialysis. He has been employed by the Clovis Municipal Schools for three years and serves as the nurse for Barry Elementary, Los Ninos Early Intervention Center, and Mesa Elementary. David’s nurturing personality makes him a great fit for the job of caring for Clovis’s kids. He enjoys his job and describes our team as the “healers of the world”. David is also a certified CPR instructor.
