Yucca Band Habits for Success
(also known as classroom rules)
1. Please treat each other with dignity and respect at all times. Before you speak, ask yourself these questions:
- Is it true?
- Is it necessary?
- Is it kind?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, it is probably best not to say it. |

2. Please follow all instructions the first time they are given.
3. Please observe standard rehearsal etiquette:
- Be in your assigned seat with your instrument, any needed accessories, and your own study materials before the tardy bell rings. Tardiness results in loss of daily grade points and chair position!
- When the director or someone appointed by the director steps onto the podium, all players should instantly be silent and focus their complete attention on that person. Do not talk or play your instrument while
instructions are being given from the podium.
- Stay on task while in rehearsal with focused, intense participation. Do your best every day, and make sure you leave each rehearsal doing at least one thing better than you could when you came in that day.
- Do not trade instruments or play on each other’s instruments. Do not touch an instrument that does not belong to you or has been assigned to you. This includes percussion instruments.
- Your feet should be flat on the floor and you should be seated on the edge of your chair during rehearsal.
|
4. Please do not bring any form of food or drink in the band room unless expressly permitted to do so by the director.
5. Please store your instruments/materials properly in your locker or slot when not in use. Band lockers are for band related materials only!
6. Please leave your rehearsal area clean, with chairs and stands straightened, ready for the next class to begin on time.
7. Take your instrument home EVERY DAY and PRACTICE!
The habits formed by disciplined application of the above instructions are among the habits found in the greatest bands in the world, regardless of their age or ability level. Each of you must strive to be your best and set an example for each other of what a dedicated band member does: leave whatever is going on outside the band at the door when you walk in, and focus on making music to the best of your ability! |
