Dear Parents and Gurdians,

Wow!  Weather has been an issue this winter.  According to the superintendent, any additional days we miss for bad weather will have to be made up.  If that is the case, April 19th which is a designated Parent/Teacher Conference Day will become a regular instructional school day for students.  If additional days are needed, April 2nd and/or days added to the end of the year are possibilities.  In any case, if severe weather occurs, please listen to a local radio station or view the Clovis Municipal School website at www.clovis-schools.org to get the earliest information on a school delay or closure.

We need your help.  It seems that we are having more and more students checked out each day before the bell rings.  This disrupts learning for all of the students in the class each time it occurs.  I know the traffic in the parking lot is difficult.  However, it is important that students remain in class until the bell rings.   Since learning is the priority for all and children depend on us to keep it this way, I appreciate your help in working together to solve this challenge.

March and April are TESTING MONTHS!  We will begin administering the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment for grade 3-6 on March 29th and standard administration will conclude on April 7th.   However, we will not be finished until the last make-up test is completed.  Because every child is required to take the test, it is critical that your child be on time and at school every day – all day.  If a child must miss, a make-up test will be given.  However, only a certified teacher can administer the test, and this interrupts learning for the other students whose teacher is gone giving a make-up test.  Therefore, we ask that you refrain from making appointments during these two weeks.  Thank you in advance for planning ahead so that we can keep interruptions and make-ups to a minimum.

As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact me, and I will be happy to discuss whatever is on your mind.  Thank you again for your support and input as we work together for the success of our kids.

Your partner in education,
Jarilyn Butler
