Clovis, NM - Curry County is proud to announce that Clovis High School junior Joaquin Sanchez has been selected to serve as County Manager for a Day on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Sanchez currently serves as President of the Clovis High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and was recently elected FCCLA State President. His dedication to service, leadership, and civic engagement made him an outstanding candidate for this unique learning opportunity.

“County Manager for a Day is always a neat experience, not only for the students who apply, but also for County employees,” said Curry County Treasurer Ben McDaniel. “It’s a great program and opportunity, from the interview process to the day we all get to work with them.”

Sanchez's day as County Manager will include a full schedule of meetings, tours, and hands-on experiences designed to provide a behind-the-scenes look at county operations. Highlights include:

  • Breakfast with elected officials and department heads

  • A tour of the Curry County Administrative Complex

  • Meetings with the Events Center Manager and Clovis Community College President

  • A working lunch with Representative Reeb, Chairman Bender, and Vice Chairman Leatherwood

  • A sheriff deputy ride-along and tours of the Courthouse and Adult Detention Center

  • A wrap-up session with the County Manager and a review of the county budget

This initiative is part of Curry County’s ongoing commitment to civic education and youth leadership development.
