Clovis High School Welcomes Michael Edwards as New Head Wrestling Coach
Clovis, NM — Clovis High School is proud to announce the hiring of Michael Edwards as the new Head Wrestling Coach. With an extensive background in strength and conditioning, as well as a proven record of leadership and athlete development, Coach Edwards brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Wildcats wrestling program.
Coach Edwards has been an integral part of the CHS wrestling program for the past three years, serving as an assistant coach. His promotion to head coach marks a natural progression in his continued commitment to the program and its student-athletes.
In addition to his role at Clovis High School, Coach Edwards is actively involved in the local wrestling scene. He coaches with the ThunderCats, a youth wrestling club based in Clovis, where he helps develop the next generation of athletes. With a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Professor Daniel Casarez of Silverback Jiu-Jitsu in Clovis, Edwards brings a diverse background in grappling and martial arts to the mat. He has also coached amateur and professional MMA fighters for over 20 years.
Coach Edwards has worked with athletes at every level, from high school to NCAA Division I programs, as well as elite military personnel and first responders. His diverse coaching background includes roles at New Mexico State University, the University of New Mexico, and the University of North Dakota, where he helped develop competitive and resilient student-athletes.
Edwards has also worked with the U.S. Army through the Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program. At Fort Bliss, Texas, he served as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, where he designed training regimens for over 600 soldiers, including Army Rangers and EOD personnel. He has worked with multiple military organizations, including the Air Force (27SOW) special operations wing.
Edwards holds a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Sports Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and holds several other credentials related to performance training, injury prevention, and mental health support.
Coach Edwards begins his new position immediately and is preparing and looking forward to the upcoming wrestling season.
