FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 9, 2026
Clovis, NM - The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education has reviewed an audio issue that occurred during the public comment portion of its May 26, 2026, Board meeting.
During comments made by Ms. Constance White-Williams regarding concerns involving a district employee, the audio on the Zoom livestream and subsequent YouTube recording was mistakenly muted. While Board members, district administration, and individuals attending the meeting in person were able to hear the comments, they were not audible to those viewing the meeting remotely or watching the recording afterward.
Following a review of the incident, the District determined that the audio was mistakenly muted by the webcast operator based on a misunderstanding regarding the handling of public comments involving personnel matters. While the action was taken in an effort to address concerns about discussing personnel issues in a public forum, the District has determined that muting the livestream was not consistent with Board policy, District practice, or the Board's commitment to providing public access to its meetings.
The District is implementing additional staff training and reviewing procedures related to livestreaming and recording Board meetings to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Because the comments were not captured in the public recording, the Board intends to consider options for supplementing the public record, including the publication of a transcript or other written documentation reflecting the comments that were not audible on the livestream and recording.
The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education remains committed to transparency, public participation, and maintaining public access to its meetings. The Board regrets that remote viewers were unable to hear this portion of the public comment period due to the audio being muted and is taking steps to ensure future broadcasts accurately reflect the proceedings of the Board.
