At the end of last week, more than 1,200 Clovis Municipal Schools employees and local dignitaries gathered in the Marshall Sixth Grade Academy Auditorium for the district’s traditional back-to-school celebration.
With Wildcat purple in every direction – varied only by teams of staff wearing colorful matching T-shirts to show pride in their campuses and departments – the school board and district administration extended enthusiastic well-wishes for the 2023-2024 school year.
A highlight of the festivities came with the announcement of the 2022-2023 Teacher and Employee of the Year. Nominated by their peers, students, families and the community, teacher Leslie Barajas and employee Leigh Dillon were honored for their compassionate and outstanding work by Employee Services Deputy Superintendent, Joe Strickland.
Closing out the program, employees enjoyed a performance and presentation by motivational speaker Dave Davlin, a former NBA player featured in the Guinness Book of World Records. Davlin’s “Make it Count” message and strategies – also adopted as the 2023-2024 motto for the district – encouraged staff to enter the year focusing on the things that matter the most.
Next week, district employees will be treated to a second evening event at Leon Williams Stadium, where they will enjoy a sneak peek at stadium improvements accomplished over the summer, a meal, games, activities, and a few surprises.
