This week, renovations will begin to the running track located at Clovis High School’s Leon Williams stadium. With renovations anticipated to take place throughout the summer, the track and stadium will be closed to the public for the duration of construction.
Classified as an X1000 World Athletics certified track, upon completion, the running track will serve as a competition track only.
The renovation will mark the first track upgrade of this magnitude to be performed at Clovis High School, with the last significant overhaul taking place more than more than 17 years ago.
With a projected cost of $2.2 million – funded through Senate Bill 212, legislation intended for maintenance and repairs – the project will involve a complete tear down, followed by replacement of the base course and sub-base and a new track surface. Long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump will also be resurfaced and new curbs and additional concrete features will be added.
Though public access to the stadium will resume following construction, in the interest of maintaining the integrity of the track for competition and practice by school athletes, public access to the track will not be permitted.
Alternate track facilities at Yucca and Gattis Middle schools, in addition to playgrounds and athletic fields district wide, continue to remain available for public use outside of school hours.
Clovis Municipal Schools is grateful to have secured funding that makes it possible to extend high caliber athletic facilities to our students, ensuring they are provided what they need to successfully train and compete.
