Last year the Gattis Choir traveled to Amarillo to attend a Sodpoodles game. Choir director Lori Riggins said the men's choir was learning a song called "Baseball," a variation of the traditional 7th inning stretch song, "Take Me Out To the Ballgame."
At that time, Riggins said she asked about singing the national anthem, but was told the slots were filled a year in advance.
On Friday, the choir was invited to return to the ballpark with an invitation this time to sing for the game opening. Riggins said 65 students from the Gattis varsity girls choir and men's choir and several teacher sponsors attended the game. The tickets to the game included an all you can eat hotdog and hamburger buffet with fixings as well as chips, potato salad, baked beans, cookies and assorted beverages. After the game the group enjoyed the fireworks show at the ballpark.
