Students show off the ribbons they won at the National History Day contest in Portales.

Seventh and eighth grade students from Gattis Middle School participated in a National History Day contest at Eastern New Mexico University on February 21.  Students participated in various events from Individual Documentary, Individual Exhibit, Individual Website, Individual Performances, Group Documentaries, Group Exhibits, Group Websites and Group Performances.  Several Gattis students made it to the next level of competition which will be held on April 11 at Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque. If students win top 3 in their category at the state competition, they will qualify for the NHD national competition held  June 8–12, at the University of Maryland, in College Park, Maryland.  

Students who advanced in the competition are:

California Crockett -- 1st place in individual performance.

Luke Clements -- 2nd place in individual website. 

Cedar Kidd -- 1st place in individual website

Prasam Ghimire -- 3rd place in individual documentary

Grayson Boerio -- 1st place in individual documentary

Remington Charrier -- 2nd place in individual exhibit 

Esias Cardenas Chairez and Adam Kshir -- 1st place in group website

Zhaniyah Holback and Yasmin Honorato -- 1st place in group documentary
