Students in Mrs. Del Toro’s 8th grade English classes recently put their knowledge to the test with a friendly game of classroom football.
“I didn’t want my students to review with the same technology we always use,” Del Toro said. “So I decided to create a football-style game.”
During the activity, students answered questions covering plot elements, figurative language, and grammar skills. Each question was assigned a level of difficulty—worth 10, 20, or 30 yards—and correct answers moved their team down the field.
Students divided into two teams and took turns selecting their question difficulty. Dressed in a referee uniform, Mrs. Del Toro asked the questions and advanced each team’s helmet marker as they scored points.
“It was a different way of reviewing,” Del Toro said. “The students were engaged and having fun.”
