The varsity girls took first place. They scored 26 points. These girls are a very special group of young ladies. They have won first place at all their meets in New Mexico except the Rio Rancho Jamboree.
The varsity boys were in a very close race. Ruidoso and Alamo tied for first with 81 points each. Alamo took first by their 6th runner. Clovis took 3rd with 83 points. The varsity boys beat Hobbs, Carlsbad, and Roswell, despite one of our runners having to withdraw after a fall during the first mile and another having to run with only one shoe after it was clipped off in the middle of the race. There were 13 teams in the race.
The JV boys blew the competition away with 26 points, finishing first with 7 runners in the top 20. JV girls took second with 6 runners in the top 20.
All the Clovis teams ran with heart, and it is an honor to watch them perform. With that said, we are looking good for the district meet for both the boys and girls teams.
The varsity team's next meet is the Pre-State Meet, the Extravaganza, where all the cross country teams in New Mexico run the state course before the state competition on Saturday. It will help us see where we stand against the competition and who we need to get in front of during State.
The middle school team will be running in the NMAA MS XC Meet for the first time on Friday. It is their cumulative state event and will be their last race for the season. We are tapering them this week and are excited to see them give it their all one last time.
