On Tuesday, Feb. 10, W. D. Gattis Middle School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members competed at the FCCLA Regional Competition held at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. Students delivered an outstanding performance, with all competitors qualifying for the state conference.
Competitors completed Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events using detailed scoring rubrics that outline complex project requirements. These projects often take months to complete and include extensive research, finished products, and comprehensive presentations, many exceeding 60 slides. Through this process, students demonstrate strong perseverance, critical thinking, and creativity as they transform challenging concepts into high-quality, personalized projects.
Congratulations to all students for their hard work and thanks also to Heather Wiggins, the FCCLA adviser for W. D. Gattis Middle School.
