Shane Leatherwood, a Clovis Municipal Schools educator who has served more than 20 years with the district, has been selected for and accepted the position of Clovis High School Freshman Academy Principal.
Beginning his relationship with the district in 2002 as a math teacher at Marshall Middle School, Leatherwood has spent his career with Clovis Schools as a coach, teacher and administrator. In 2005 he began teaching secondary mathematics at Clovis High School, where he remained until accepting a position as a math teacher at Yucca Middle School in 2014.
Leatherwood was hired as assistant principal of the Freshman Academy in 2020.
Working as both a coach and teacher throughout much of his time with the district, Leatherwood initially coached as a volunteer assistant baseball coach in 2002, until he was hired as a junior varsity baseball coach in 2003. In 2005, he was hired for a position as a junior varsity baseball coach at Clovis High School, and continued coaching baseball and soccer until 2014.
Leatherwood is an alumnus of Wayland Baptist University, where he earned a master’s degree in administration. Completing his undergraduate studies through academic and athletic scholarships, Leatherwood also holds a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in math from the University of the Southwest.
Leatherwood will assume his new role as Freshman Academy principal for the 2023-2024 school year. The vacancy was created by the retirement of current principal John Howell.
