T-R-A-G-A-L-U-Z… EIGHT MAGIC LETTERS SECURE WIN, PLACE IN STATE BEE FOR LA CASITA 4TH GRADER!

Winning the distinction of Clovis Municipal Schools top Spanish speller, Luis Villamil Romo is headed to the New Mexico Spanish Spelling Bee in April!  

The La Casita fourth grader competed against 20 other fourth through eighth grade students at the 2024 Clovis Municipal Schools District Spanish Spelling Bee, claiming the win with the correct spelling of “tragaluz”, the Spanish word for “skylight”.  

Coraline Salgado, a Yucca Middle School seventh grader, took second place, and third place went to Jesus Gomez, an eighth grader from Yucca Middle School.  

The annual Spanish Spelling Bee was held Wednesday, February 15, at Marshall Auditorium, with competitors hailing from Arts Academy at Bella Vista, Cameo, Highland, La Casita, and Lockwood elementary schools, Marshall 6th Grade Academy, Gattis and Yucca Middle Schools.  

Only the first-place winner will compete at the state Spanish spelling bee, with the district’s second and third place winners serving as alternates. The state bee takes place at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, on April 27, 2024.
