Students in the 8th grade computer literacy class are taking hands-on learning to the next level by using Snap Circuit kits to create functional electronic projects — including working radios. These kits, which allow components to easily snap together without soldering, are helping students understand the basics of electronics, circuitry, and problem-solving.

As part of this unit, students are learning how circuits power everyday devices. The radio project has been a class favorite, allowing students to tune into local stations with something they built themselves. Other projects have included alarms, light sensors, and motion detectors.

"This activity helps connect what we’re learning in class to the real world," said one student. "It’s fun to actually build something that works."

Using Snap Circuits is allowing students to gain not just technical knowledge, but teamwork and critical thinking skills along the way.
