Dual Language at La Casita
Cosechando lo major de nuestra comunidad bilingue." — Harvesting the knowledge of our bilingual community.
What is the Dual Language Program?
The Dual Language Program is a strong academic program that focuses on development of literacy in two languages (English and Spanish). Native English speakers and non-native English speakers participate and are integrated in the same classroom. Instruction in all content areas is initially presented 80% in Spanish and 20% in English, English will be phased in until the amount of English instruction is equal to that of Spanish (this will occur in upper grades).
The instruction will be as follows: | ||
Grade | Spanish | English |
Kindergarten | 80% | 20% |
1st Grade | 70% | 20% |
2nd Grade | 60% | 30% |
3rd Grade | 50% | 50% |
4th Grade | 50% | 50% |
5th Grade | 50% | 50% |
An important principle is clear curricular separation of the two languages of instruction.
