Corey Pickett Boys Basketball Coach

Clovis Municipal Schools’ Director of Fine Arts, Corey Pickett, a near-30 year veteran basketball coach with a lengthy history of working with the Wildcats, has been selected for and accepted the position of head boy’s basketball coach at Clovis High School.

Two years into his position as district fine arts director, Pickett will now add a whistle and sneakers, performing both his current and new coaching roles. 

Pickett began his career with the district in 2001, when he was selected to teach art at W.D. Gattis Middle School.

Prior to joining the district, Pickett worked as assistant and head girl’s basketball coach at Clovis Christian School from 1997 until 2000, when he began coaching basketball, track and volleyball at W. D. Gattis Middle School.

Moving to assistant boy’s basketball coach at Clovis High School in 2009, Pickett continued to coach at the high school until 2017, when he was named head boy’s basketball coach at Clovis Christian School.

In 2020, Pickett returned to the Wildcat boy’s basketball team as an assistant coach and has continued to work with the team since.

Throughout this time, Pickett has also held simultaneous teaching and administrative positions with Clovis Schools, transitioning from assistant principal at Clovis High School to his current position in 2022.

Pickett earned his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Eastern New Mexico University,  a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Mr. Pickett will assume this position on July 1. This vacancy was created by the departure of Joshua Mattox.
