With fall and winter upon us, it is the time of year when seasonal and contagious illnesses – colds, flu, allergies, COVID and others – are an unfortunate fact of life.
If your student is ill, when deciding whether or not to send them to school, follow the standard guidance:
Any student experiencing any of the following symptoms, should not report to school:
• Fever of 100°F or higher
• Chills
• Persistent Cough
• Sore Throat
• Vomiting or Diarrhea
Any illness (flu, COVID etc.) - Students may return to school after isolation if their symptoms are improving, and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
• If symptoms have not improved, or fever is persisting, please notify your school nurse and see
your healthcare provider for further guidance.
If your student has COVID:
· Students who test positive must isolate for 5 days from the specimen collection or symptom start date.
· And until fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
· And until symptoms are improved.
Students who come to school with symptoms or develop symptoms while at school, should wear a well-fitting mask and are encouraged to get tested.
Possible symptoms included:
· Fever or chills
· Cough
· Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
· Fatigue
· Muscle or body aches
· Headache
· New loss of taste or smell
· Sore throat
· Congestion or runny nose
· Nausea or vomiting
· Diarrhea
