The Clovis High School campus was placed in Lockdown for approximately 10 minutes at 3:45 p.m. today, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, after staff discovered a weapon in the possession of a student.
The incident was prompted when staff responded to the activation of a bathroom vape sensor. Upon learning a search was imminent as a result of the sensor activation, the student fled from the campus and staff subsequently located the weapon in a backpack that had been left behind.
Police are investigating and working to locate the student. Officers have reported that charges are pending.
Once it was confirmed the student was no longer on campus, the lockdown was lifted and students were dismissed as regularly scheduled.
The district will not offer further comment, inquiries should be directed to the Clovis Police Department.
