First-grade students put their creativity and engineering skills to the test during our Egg Drop Challenge! Using only recycled materials, students designed and built special containers to protect their eggs from breaking when dropped from 50 feet. The students worked hard to plan, create, and problem-solve while learning about force, motion, and engineering design. Then Mrs. Winrow, Mrs. Loper, Mrs. Adams, and Mrs. Gardner all went up into the bucket to drop the eggs to test the students' projects. Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Loper were very brave and went up all the way to 101 ft and took some lovely shots of our school and the surrounding area. GOOD JOB First Grade, GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!!!

Students from Mrs. Gardner’s and Ms. Stacy’s classes dressed up and created posters about what they want to be when they grow up. Each student presented their poster to the class and shared: (1) what career they chose, (2) what the job does, (3) where the job works, (4) what tools or supplies are used, and (5) a fun fact about the career.
Some of the careers students presented included a Marine Biologist, Female NASCAR Driver, NASA Scientist, Policeman, and a C-130 Weapons System Officer.

K-2nd got to go to the Air Force base and have a STEM field trip. They had so much fun! Pictured are Mrs. Adams' and Mrs. Anna's first-grade class during a few activities that were available!

Mrs. Adams' and Mrs. Anna's class is learning about light and sound. They used flashlights to learn about how colors mix and how light travels. Their class also learned about diffraction gradients. How fun does that look!! GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!

4th grade is currently working on the PLTW Module Organisms: Structure & Function. They did a simulation experiment to learn about how cellular respiration occurs and how different variables impact water and nutrient absorption through plant root systems.
Through this process, they learned that water is absorbed faster when it rains after a dry period (drought), but will slow absorption when access to water is available or occurs over a longer period of time (prolonged rain/ wet season). They observed that plants with deeper root systems absorbed water differently than those with shallow roots. They measured after 1 minute exposure to water (drought), documenting the length of water absorbed by their paper towel, and again when it was it was put back in the water and left for 30 more minutes (prolonged rain/wet season) identifying that less water was absorbed between 1 minute and 30 minutes than the 1 minute exposure.
They worked together to test their predictions, compare and contrast the data collected, use critical thinking to find variables, and document their findings!
Good job, GOOD JOB! 👏🏼 👏🏼

First grade buzzed over to a special location to learn about REAL busy bees and how they help us and the earth. They got to see a beekeeper's uniform and some tools they use to harvest honey. Special guest, Bumble the Bee, taught them how to stay calm around bees and what can happen if they don’t. They learned a lot of interesting facts about bees from the presenters who were as sweet as honey!

Our excellent first-grade artists in Mrs. Adams' and Mrs. Anna's classes learned about Michelangelo and created masterpieces on the bottom of their desks.
