The Clovis Municipal Schools Education Foundation announced the recipients of its 2025-2026 Education Initiative Grants. Our very own Coach Kasandra Taupier put in a lot of hard work, time, and patience to help bring something new and exciting to our Physical Education. With some help from Kaina Hodson, Kesha Adams, Rebecca Eichem, Elizabeth Garnica, Sarah Scism, and Charles Shields we can now proudly say we are bringing STEM Sports to BARRY STEAM ACADEMY!!! The Project: “STEM Sports” Combining academic content with physical activity, this project introduces an innovative STEM Sports curriculum that teaches math and science concepts through games like soccer and baseball. The program increases engagement, supports diverse learning styles, and promotes student wellness. On Tuesday December 2, 2025 Coach Kasi and Mrs. Scism stood to receive the check for the grant. They are pictured with two of the CMS Education Foundation Members. GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!!

Mrs. Sullivan's choice for an enrichment was a fun one and will help these kiddos continue their love for sports. Any Sport is an important enrichment activity for 4th- and 5th-grade students because they support healthy physical, social, and emotional development. Through regular movement, children gain strength, coordination, and overall fitness, helping them build lifelong healthy habits. Sports also teach essential social skills, such as teamwork, cooperation, and communication, as students learn to work toward shared goals. They provide opportunities to practice responsibility, follow rules, and develop self-discipline. Participation in sports can boost confidence as children see their skills improve and learn to overcome challenges. Additionally, sports offer a positive outlet for energy and stress, helping students stay focused and engaged in the classroom. By exploring different physical activities, students may discover new interests and talents. Overall, sports enrich the elementary experience by promoting well-rounded growth and supporting both academic and personal success for young learners. GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!!

Mrs. White picked a very relaxing but engaging enrichment this year. Pilates as an enrichment class in elementary school offers young students a unique opportunity to build strength, flexibility, and body awareness in a supportive, age-appropriate environment. By focusing on controlled movements, proper posture, and mindful breathing, Pilates helps children develop coordination and balance, which can enhance their performance in other physical activities and daily tasks. The calm, structured nature of Pilates can also support students’ emotional well-being by teaching self-regulation, focus, and stress-management skills. In addition, Pilates encourages a positive relationship with physical activity by emphasizing individual progress rather than competition. When integrated into the school day, it provides a refreshing break from academic work while reinforcing the connection between physical and mental health. As an enrichment class, Pilates fosters confidence, promotes healthy habits, and creates an inclusive space where all students can participate, grow, and discover new ways to move their bodies safely and joyfully. Mrs. Puls took on such a fun enrichment this year! A Puzzles, and Board Games enrichment program in elementary school builds critical thinking and social skills through engaging, hands-on play. Students explore a wide range of activities—including logic puzzles, strategy board games, cooperative challenges, and problem-solving stations—that encourage them to think creatively and persist through difficulty. As they work through different games, children practice essential skills like pattern recognition, spatial reasoning, sequencing, and deductive logic. Many activities also promote collaboration, communication, and good sportsmanship, giving students opportunities to work in teams, share strategies, and celebrate one another’s successes. The enrichment class supports diverse learning styles by offering both independent and group tasks, as well as a mix of tactile, visual, and verbal challenges. Overall, the program provides a fun, intellectually stimulating environment that strengthens academic foundations while nurturing confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!!

Ms. Hooks took on some artistic expression for her enrichment class this school year. Artistic expression provides essential enrichment for elementary school students, fostering holistic development that goes far beyond the canvas. It serves as a powerful outlet for self-expression and emotional regulation, allowing children to process feelings and ideas non-verbally, which builds self-confidence.

Engagement in visual arts, music, and drama improves cognitive skills and academic performance. Activities like drawing or sculpting enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, critical for tasks like writing. Furthermore, art encourages critical thinking and problem-solving as students experiment with materials, make design choices, and persevere through creative challenges. By integrating art with subjects like history or science, enrichment programs deepen understanding, boost memory retention, and cultivate creativity and cultural awareness. Ultimately, art enrichment helps develop well-rounded, empathetic individuals with strong motivation and collaboration skills. Way to create some cute Turkeys!! GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!!

Mrs. Gardners Cross Stitch enrichment class have completed some amazing projects and have learned some fun ways to unwind and relax!! Cross stitch is an excellent enrichment activity for elementary school students, offering a blend of creativity and skill development. It’s a manageable craft that requires focus, making it ideal for improving concentration and patience. The repetitive nature of stitching can also be a calming and mindful experience, helping children reduce stress and unwind. The precision needed for counting squares and placing stitches significantly enhances fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. As students progress, they can experiment with colors and patterns, boosting their ability for creative expression and problem-solving. Completing a project, even a small one, provides a strong sense of accomplishment, fostering self-esteem and a positive attitude toward learning new, challenging skills. It’s a fun, screen-free activity that teaches valuable life skills and perseverance. Way to go Cross Stitch Team GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!!

Mrs. Scism's and Mrs. Thomas' Mindfulness enrichment class at Barry STEAM Academy helps students develop focus, works on their emotional awareness, and their self-regulation. Through simple breathing exercises, guided reflections, and mindful movement, children learn to calm their minds and respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. This practice encourages kindness, patience, and empathy, creating a more positive classroom environment. By teaching mindfulness early, schools help students build lifelong skills for managing stress and improving concentration. The class also supports academic success by promoting attention and reducing anxiety. Overall, mindfulness as an enrichment class not only nurtures both emotional well-being and cognitive growth, but also empowers students to thrive inside and outside the classroom. Look at them drawing bubbles and being so attentive while doing so! GOOD JOB GOOD JOB!!
