Graduation Requirements

To Graduate from Clovis High School

A STUDENT MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE 24.5 CREDITS.

Credit is awarded on the basis of one credit per class period for the full year. A semester course will be issued .5 credits. A student must have earned at least 17 credits and have successfully completed two years of English to be classified as a senior.

Only students fulfilling ALL requirements have the option to march in the commencement ceremony:

      English 4 credits
      Math 4 credits (One shall be equivalent to or higher than Algebra II)
      Science 3 credits (Two of which shall have a laboratory component)
      Social Science 3.5 credits
            ✓ U.S. History (1 credit)
            ✓ World History (1 credit)
            ✓ Government/ Economics (1 credit)
            ✓ NM History (.5 credit)
      Physical Education 1 credit
      Health - .5 credit
      Electives 8.5 credits

One (1) credit must be in one of the following areas: career cluster course, work place readiness, or a language other than English. One class must be online, AP, or a dual credit class.

Elective course work includes: fine arts (i.e., music, band, chorus, theater, and art); practical arts; modern languages; vocational education; mathematics; science; English; aerospace science; social science; computer science; and other electives approved by the NM Department of Public Education including dual credit classes offered at Clovis Community College. Electives will be offered only if sufficient enrollment and adequate resources are available.

All students must demonstrate competence in the subject areas of math, reading, writing, social studies, and science to receive a New Mexico diploma of excellence. Students must pass all parts of the New Mexico High School Graduation Assessments. Students will take the exams during the spring of their sophomore and junior year.

If not passed, the student will have one chance in the fall and of their senior year to pass all parts of the exams. An Alternate Demonstration of Competence (ADC) may be considered for graduation as long as the student has exhausted all opportunities to pass the state mandated test.

ANY STUDENT NOT MEETING ALL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT RECEIVE A DIPLOMA OR PARTICIPATE IN THE END-OF-YEAR GRADUATION CEREMONY.

Demonstration of Competence (ADC) may be considered for graduation as long as the student has exhausted all opportunities to pass the state mandated test.
