After nearly three decades at the helm of the state’s nationally recognized, premier high school band program – including a stunning 11 consecutive years as New Mexico state marching champions – William “Bill” Allred will be retiring as Clovis High School Wildcat Band Director.
Though Allred’s departure will not be immediate, Clovis Municipal Schools will open the high-profile role starting today, with a call for applications.
Having secured the state championship title for 2023, an accomplishment marking the conclusion of the competition season, the remaining months of the school year will provide opportunity for the selection of a new band director and allow for a seamless transition in leadership.
The position will remain open until filled. Candidates can submit an application online at: www.clovis-schools.org
While the position is classified as a music teacher with a salary range of $54,000 - $85,000 based on experience and qualifications, the Clovis High School Head Band Director also receives an additional stipend of $16,000.
The district is seeking exceptional candidates for the role who can carry forward the stellar legacy of the Clovis High School Band Program.
An ideal candidate will possess experience with:
Directing a highly collaborative, successful, multi-faceted competitive band program which includes: marching, concert and jazz bands
Regional and national competitions to include Bands of America contests
Collegiate-level concert literature
Building productive, collaborative relationships with clinicians, design teams, booster clubs, community groups and all stakeholders
Cultivating and collaborating with middle school feeder programs
Allred was first hired in 1996 as assistant band director at Clovis High School. In 2000 he took a position as band director at Marshall Middle School, followed by head band director at Clovis High School in 2001, where he has served more than 20 years.
The legacy of Clovis Municipal Schools music and band programs extends nearly a century, providing generations of Clovis students the opportunity to participate in a rich history of superior tutelage and performance.
It is with gratitude and appreciation that the district recognizes the contributions of our outstanding family of music educators and welcomes a coming era of continued achievement – THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR CAREER WITH US MR. ALLRED!
