During the Second Grade walking field trip they had to take pictures of living organisms and nonliving things within our habitat for their Great Plains PLTW Google Slides. During their field trip a wonderful Clovis Police Officer stopped by and helped out wonderful kids cross back across the road to the school. The officer said that it was amazing what fun the kids were having learning about different organisms and their habitats within our habitat. GOOD JOB GOOD JOB Second Grade!!!

Congratulations to Melissa Sharp, a special education teacher at Barry Steam Academy! She is the recipient of the Week 7 "Pizza Our Heart Educator Appreciation Award."

Third Grade has been working on the Life Cycles and Survival module. The problem that the students encountered was that the community garden is not producing enough vegetables. The problem goes even further with noticing that the garden is not attracting enough pollinators especially the honeybees. The students learn why the honeybees are declining and then they will have to solve the problem by designing and creating a habit to attract and protect the bees.

A volunteer training session will be held on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 PM in the boardroom at the Clovis Municipal Schools Central Office, located at 1009 N. Main St. All individuals who plan to volunteer this year are required to attend a training session before participating in any school activities.

An Enrichment class available this year at Barry STEAM Academy is Photography. They have gotten to learn how a Polaroid camera works, which is really awesome. They have also gotten to go take action shots on the playground with their fellow photographers, and models. We are excited to see how those action shots turn out!! Way to Go Ms. Liz's Photography Class!!! Good Job Good Job!!

Military and First Responders Appreciation Night will be held this Friday, October 3, 2025. Military members and first responders will receive free admission to the game with a valid ID.
Come cheer on our Wildcats as they take on Las Cruces at 7 PM at Leon Williams Stadium!
CMS staff and students also receive free admission to home football games with their school ID. Elementary and Middle School students can attend free with a paid parent/guardian.

Registration is now open for the Elementary Youth Sports Volleyball season!
Students enrolled in Clovis Municipal Schools in kindergarten through fifth grade can take part in this free, six-week program. The season begins with four weeks of skill camps followed by two weeks of games.
The volleyball season starts on October 17, 2025, and the last game will be held on November 22.

Last Wednesday we had our very first House Meetings of the year!! They were fun and successful, the kids learned a little more about what their specific house is about. Each houses Ambassadors picked the most spirited for that house for that day! As a family we all worked together to make paper mache posters to represent each house symbols! Way to go Ambassadors!! Good Job Good Job!!

Wednesday the Fourth and Fifth grade classes got treated to a special performance by the WASSA Drum & Dance Ensemble!! What a blast they had dancing and singing along to the beat of the drums!

Fourth Grade did some Landforms with shaving cream when they started their Earth: Past, Present, and Future module. They did a hands on sensory activity to get better acquainted with our Earth!!

5th grade were adding and subtracting decimals. We learned that lining up the decimals and place values are extremely important when doing these expressions that we decided the school should know about it through our chalk the sidewalk gallery. What an out of the box, fun way, to learn about decimals!!
