Our Governor Responds
Clovis High School’s Purple Press is celebrating a monumental 100th issue and to commemorate this milestone, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham sent a special letter to the Purple Press staff. In her letter to Co-Editors in Chiefs MaryJane Rodriguez and Natalie Jennings, Governor Lujan Grisham congratulated The Purple Press on its century of service to Clovis High School and the community.
While her busy schedule during the legislative session prevented her from giving us an interview at the moment, she expressed her admiration for our team’s dedication to journalism and education. Beyond the congratulations, the Governor’s letter also highlighted key initiatives impacting New Mexico’s education system, including making the new Office of Special Education permanent, a $50 million annual investment in the Indian Education Fund, launching a comprehensive math and STEM program, and increasing funding for programs and services at the Early Childhood Education and Care Department.
Governor Lujan Grisham’s letter is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone who has been a part of The Purple Press over the last 103 years, including our dedicated advisor, Mr. Martinez. Her emphasis on key educational initiatives highlights how these efforts will shape education and opportunities for students across New Mexico.
As The Purple Press moves forward, we remain committed to reporting on vital issues and upholding the high standards of journalism the Governor encouraged. Here’s to another century of serving our community! Congratulations again to the Purple Press team on this remarkable achievement.
Purple Press is a publication vehicle for student expression.
The school board encourages students to express their views in school-sponsored publications and to observe rules for responsible journalism. This means expression that falls into any of the following categories shall not be permitted: any expression which is false or obscene, libelous, slanderous, or defamatory under state law, which presents a clear and present danger of the commission of unlawful acts, violation of school rules or materials and substantial disruption of the orderly operation of the school or which violates the privacy rights of others.
Student editors of school-sponsored publications are responsible for determining the news, opinion, and advertising content of the publication. The publication's advisor is responsible for supervising the production of the publication and for teaching and encouraging free responsible expression and professional standards of journalism.
The views expressed in the Purple Press are not necessarily those of Clovis High School or the Clovis Municipal School Board of Education.
