JROTC Cadets Attend Summer Leadership Camps

Clovis, NM - Last week, Clovis High School Air Force JROTC cadets attended two camps at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. Over 700 cadets from 30 high schools participated in the training. Six CHS cadets attended the Cadet Staff Leadership Course to prepare for senior leadership positions during the upcoming school year. Clovis Cadet Julian Thomas was recognized as the Top Male Athlete at CSLC. Also attending were cadets Mathew Edwards, Kayson Euman, Ernesto Lozano, Mathew Porter, and Tristan Rivera.

Six first-year cadets attended the Joint Cadet Leadership Course. By ranking in the top 10% of graduates, Cadet Viktor Kowalski was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of JCLC. Also attending were Felicity Gallegos, Gabriel Roth, Bryson Lopez, Peyton Parker, and Nicholas Frausto.

Two Clovis cadets served on the camp staff. Cadets Matthew Ochoa and Brayden Tellado, both graduates of JCLC and CSLC, conducted training and provided supervision for first-year cadets from other high schools. Cadets Ochoa and Tellado will be leading the Wildcat Corps as its top two cadets for the fall semester.

In addition, former CHS cadet Landon Gipson served as a Cadet Training Officer along with other college ROTC cadets at the camp. Cadet Gipson recently completed his first year of Army ROTC at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.

Lt Col (ret) Les Ball and SMSgt (ret) Michael Kilcullen are the two JROTC instructors at Clovis High School and helped oversee camp operations during the week.
