Teachers and staff had some fun this week with an underground spirit week. Students had no clue what each day might bring. On our last day, we had some twin "coaches" running around! There is never a dull moment at CHS. 💜🖤🐾

CHS AP and PreAP teachers are working hard for CHS students taking advanced placement classes. If your child has not taken an AP or PreAP class, it is a great opportunity to dive deeper into subjects that they love.

High School Culinary Students Showcase Skills Ahead of NM State Fair Competition Today, culinary students from CHS were invited to Guadalajara Restaurant to practice for the upcoming High School Culinary Competition at the New Mexico State Fair. In a timed challenge that mirrored competition conditions, students had 90 minutes to prepare traditional green chile stew along with fresh corn and flour tortillas entirely from scratch—cooking outdoors and in front of spectators just as they will at next week’s event. Their dishes earned high compliments from community members who stopped to watch and taste. We extend sincere appreciation to Guadalajara for hosting the students and providing this valuable platform to prepare for competition.

We built campsite rockets stoves to not only stay warm at camp but also to cook on. We are raffling off 5 stoves built by the students. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Tickets are being sold through mid October 12. Contact Kris Everhart at 575-607-5813 for tickets.

Agriculture students in the Science of Small Animals classes had some very special visitors today — Atlas and Willow, two of our school district’s therapy dogs! 🐶 Students learned about therapy dog training, the important role these dogs play, and of course, gave Atlas and Willow lots of pets and attention.

A huge THANK YOU to Adam Martinez and Heather Woodard from CMS Academic Services for sharing Atlas and Willow with us. We appreciate you taking the time to give our students a firsthand look that made what they’re learning feel more real and relevant!

🌸 From classroom to career experience! Our Ag internship students are putting their floriculture knowledge into action by running a student-led flower farm right here on our school’s Ag farm. 💐

As part of the Plant Systems program of study in our CHS Career & Technical Education department, these students are gaining hands-on experience — from cutting and caring for blooms to preparing arrangements for the community. 🌱

Shoutout to our hardworking interns for showing what applied learning looks like in action!

🌽✨ ProStart Students Rolling Into Competition! ✨🌽 Clovis High School’s ProStart culinary students are busy practicing their tortilla-making skills as they get ready for the Green Chile Stew Cook-off at the 2nd Annual New Mexico State Fair High School Culinary Competition (September 10) — an event exclusively for high school ProStart programs across New Mexico 🌶 From fresh flour to hand-pressed corn tortillas, these students are putting in the work to make sure their stew has the perfect sidekick. Big thanks to Chef Mike Mendoza of Guadalajara, who shared his time and tips this week to help ProStart II students sharpen their skills! 🙌 Clovis High School’s ProStart program is led by Engelica Anaya — and we can’t wait to see these culinary students shine at the fair. 🌶✨
