Audiology Services

The Special Education department employs a full-time ASHA certified audiologist for those students who are hard of hearing or deaf or who have hearing health concerns. These students will have been identified as eligible after an audiological evaluation through IDEA or through a 504 plan. The audiologist also performs hearing evaluations for those students who are referred by school nurse’s screenings and for Child Find when needed.

Audiological services include full hearing evaluations, which include audiological testing, immittence testing, Otoacoustic Emissions testing and other audiological tests as needed. Evaluations can result in medical referrals, fitting and management of hearing aids or provision of Hearing Assistant Technology (HAT: which includes classroom amplification devices such as sound field technology or auditory trainers). The audiologist participates and assists in program placement and classroom considerations for hard of hearing students, providing yearly evaluations and monthly monitoring for these students.
