Clovis Municipal Schools supports the belief that learning occurs best in an inviting, safe, and orderly school setting: one in which students are safe and feel free from theft, threats, intimidation, bullying, weapons, drugs, or violence of any type. To accomplish this Clovis Municipal Schools maintains a sincere and dedicated commitment to the safety of its students, staff, and property.
In order to provide a school environment that is healthy, safe and conducive to learning, CMS worked with parents and community agencies to develop a School-Level Safety Plan. This plan, which is reviewed annually, provides direction for school staff in the prevention and deterrent of potentially harmful situations.
Should an emergency or disaster situation ever arise in our area while school is in session, we want you to be aware that the schools have made preparations to respond effectively to such situations. Our School District has a detailed emergency crisis plan, which has been formulated to respond to a major catastrophe.
The safety and security of students and staff depends upon everyone knowing, to the extent possible, what to do when an actual incident occurs. Minutes or even seconds often can make a critical difference in saving lives.
Conducting drills strengthens schools as learning organizations by empowering and creating a culture of preparedness. Drills are conducted to make students and personnel more confident in making decisions to effectively and efficiently manage an emergency or major event. With good training and practice, everyone involved will be better able to react appropriately to emergency events.
Policies and procedures provide direction for Clovis Municipal Schools staff for intervening in potentially harmful situations.
Staff receive training on school safety and practice with drills to ensure student safety.

Emergency Procedures
Please do not telephone the school. Telephone lines may be needed for emergency communication.
Parents will be instructed via the Skyward alert system and local media how to reunite with their students.
Students will be released only to a responsible adult who has been identified on the Emergency Medical Authorization/Signature Card form, which is required to be filled out by parents at the beginning of every school year.
Parents will be notified by the Skyward alert system as information becomes available.
Impress upon your children the need for them to follow the directions of any school personnel in times of an emergency
Please discuss these matters with your immediate family. Planning ahead will help alleviate concern during emergencies.
VISITING OUR SCHOOLS: PARENT & VISITOR SIGN-IN PROCEDURES
Thank you for visiting the Clovis Municipal Schools! To ensure the safety and security of all students, employees, and visitors to our buildings, CMS has implemented the following visitor safety procedures:
PARKING: Please ensure that vehicles are parked in designated visitor spaces. Do not leave vehicles parked or standing in fire lanes (designated by red curbing), bus lanes, or spaces not designated for parking.
ENTRANCE: Upon arrival at the school building, enter through the designated visitor/main entrance and report to the greeter window. For the safety of all students, employees, and visitors, all exterior doors will be locked (all doors can still be used as exits).
IDENTIFY YOURSELF: You will be asked who you are here to visit and the nature of your visit prior to gaining entrance to the building. If you are requesting to see or remove a student from a school building, you must be an authorized parent or guardian or have authorization from a parent or guardian. The district reserves the right to deny an individual entry to any school building when there is reason to believe that such individual’s presence would be detrimental to the operation of the school and the learning environment.
PHOTO ID: Present your valid photo identification to a staff member. All visitors will be asked to verify their identity by showing district staff a form of photo identification with date of birth, such as a driver’s license or government issued ID card. We will not check you in as a visitor or release a student to your care without your photo ID.
VISITOR MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE/BADGE: You will be asked to sign into the building and you will be issued a visitor badge. Your ID may be scanned for visitor management purposes only. This system will create a photo visitor badge.
WEAR YOUR VISITOR BADGE AT ALL TIMES: The visitor badge must be displayed and visible at all times during your visit. For the safety of students, employees, and other visitors, please be aware that our staff have been trained to approach and question visitors who are in the building and not wearing an ID badge.
LEAVING THE BUILDING: At the completion of your visit, you will be required to check back in at the greeter station to return your visitor badge and sign out as a visitor.
VIDEO SURVEILLANCE: Please note that school entrances and numerous locations in our buildings are under video surveillance.
NOTE: If any school employee becomes aware that an individual is in a school without having received permission, the employee must escort the individual to the office.
