Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education Addresses Misinformation on Recent Policy Updates

Clovis, NM – Clovis Municipal Schools wishes to address recent misinformation circulating in the community regarding the policies passed by the Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education at Tuesday’s meeting. Contrary to recent claims, these policies do not permit students to use restrooms based on gender identity in a manner that would disregard privacy. Statements to the contrary are inaccurate and do not reflect the actual content or intent of these policies.

The policy language that was passed affirms our commitment to nondiscrimination and ensures a safe, supportive environment for all students and staff, reflecting the high standards our community expects.

Clarifying the Policies:

Policy A-250 – This policy emphasizes the Board’s commitment to nondiscrimination and equal opportunity, explicitly prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, age, religion, national origin, gender identity, military status, and other protected classes. This policy aligns with established legal standards to support equity and respect for all.

Policy A-0300 – This outlines the Title IX processes to be followed if a claim of discrimination is reported. These processes include structured procedures such as complaint handling, reporting, grievance processes, and record-keeping, ensuring fairness and confidentiality for everyone involved.

Policy G-0200 – This policy underscores the district’s commitment to a fair workplace by prohibiting discrimination against employees in hiring, promotion, compensation, and other employment-related matters based on their membership in any of the protected classes defined in Policy A-250.

The District encourages all community members to review the policies directly to understand their true purpose and intent. By working together and staying informed, we can focus on creating a positive and supportive environment for our students, staff, and families.

A recording of the live broadcast of the October 22, 2024, CMS Board of Education meeting will be available to view in its entirety on the district’s website beginning Tuesday, October 29.
