Heather Summers Named Principal of Clovis High School
Clovis, NM – Clovis Municipal Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Heather Summers as the new principal of Clovis High School.
With more than 18 years of experience in education, including roles as principal at Bloomfield High School and Naaba Ani Elementary School, Ms. Summers brings a wealth of knowledge in instructional leadership, student support, and school culture transformation. Her leadership has consistently resulted in improved student achievement, increased attendance, and enhanced school climate.
Ms. Summers has also served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Bloomfield Schools, where she played a key role in developing data-informed interventions, restorative practices, and equity-centered strategies. Her work has emphasized relationship-building, family engagement, and the creation of safe, inclusive learning environments for all students.
Ms. Summers holds a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, both from New Mexico State University.
Known for her calm demeanor, collaborative spirit, and unwavering commitment to educational excellence, Ms. Summers has earned the respect of colleagues, families, and students alike.

Sara Hodson Named Principal of Zia Elementary School
Clovis Municipal Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Hodson as Principal of Zia Elementary School. With nearly two decades of experience in education and student support services, Hodson steps into her new position with extensive expertise, strong leadership skills, and a deep commitment to educational excellence.
Hodson most recently served as Assistant Principal at Parkview Elementary and previously held the position of Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) at both Zia and Cameo Elementary Schools. Her understanding of the Zia community and commitment to student success make her well-suited to lead the school forward.
A long-standing member of the Clovis educational community, Hodson began her career in 2005 as a special education teacher and school counselor. She also served as a Special Education Liaison, advocating for students with diverse needs. Her leadership experience is further enhanced by her work as a community mental health provider and her licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
Hodson holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from Eastern New Mexico University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Special Education with a minor in Language Arts. She recently completed the Administration (ALD) Program through Cooperative Educational Services (CES) in 2023.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Hodson is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a QPR Gatekeeper Instructor in suicide prevention. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the United Way and is an active member of Noonday Kiwanis.
