How Capital Improvement Act Funds Support Every CMS School

From warm classrooms in winter to safe playgrounds and modern technology, a lot of what makes our schools safe and functional happens behind the scenes, and it’s made possible by Capital Improvement Act Tax funds.

These locally approved funds are dedicated solely to school maintenance and upgrades. They help Clovis Municipal Schools pay for:

  • Roof and HVAC repairs

  • Playground and field improvements

  • Security systems and classroom safety

  • Technology upgrades

  • Building code compliance and modernization

This funding cannot be used for teacher salaries, benefits, or curriculum.

Without this funding, our district would lose approximately $2 million per year beginning in 2026. That would force the district to redirect money from our operational funds just to cover basic repairs and upkeep, which could ultimately affect student resources and support services.

Recent projects funded through the Capital Improvement Act Tax include:

  • Playground repairs at Highland and Mesa Elementary

  • HVAC replacement at The Rock

  • Safety fencing and welding program upgrades at Clovis High School

  • Technology infrastructure improvements districtwide

These upgrades help ensure that every student, on every campus, has a safe and supportive place to learn.

Ballots for the mail-in election must be received by the Curry County Clerk by February 12, 2026 at 7 PM. To ensure ballots are received on time, we recommend mailing ballots back by February 5, 2026, or dropping them off in person to the County Clerk’s office at 417 Gidding.
